WHEREAS, Born in Philadelphia, Mr. McMichael was a pillar, historian, and civic-minded resident of Brewerytown Sharswood; and

WHEREAS, Mr. McMichael, always a proponent of education, taught drafting and history at Thomas Edison High School for many years; and

WHEREAS, One of the original founders of the Brewerytown Sharswood Community Civic Association in 2000, Mr. McMichael served as president for over 20 years until his passing on September 21, 2021; and

WHEREAS, Ever the active community leader, he met with neighbors Saturday mornings on the 2500 block of Stewart Street and 2400 block of Sharswood Street and the 1400 block of north 25th Street to clean the neighborhood and host a forum for people to voice their concerns about issues in their community; and

WHEREAS, Mr. McMichael also worked closely with the Tree Tender Program and the Pennsylvania Horticulture Society to plant more trees in the community to improve the quality of life for all residents, maintaining several vacant lots on the 2500 block of Stewart Street. He received no monetary support from any person or source, but he cared for the lots anyway, turning an eyesore into a beautiful garden; and

WHEREAS, He worked tirelessly to improve the conditions in his neighborhood, purchasing homes in the community for rehabilitation along with his brothers, Robert and Donald Sr., and sold some of the homes as well as rented homes to people in the community. He always supported the development of affordable housing and encouraged local entrepreneurs to establish businesses in the area; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Michael will be remembered by his family, friends, and his community for his unending work and dedication to his community; now, therefore, be it
