Recognizing and honoring legendary sports journalist Donald Hunt on the occasion of his retirement after over thirty years of writing for the Philadelphia Tribune.

WHEREAS, Donald Hunt is originally from Darby Township, Pennsylvania, but is now a proud resident of in the 4th Councilmanic District, living in the Wynnefield neighborhood of Philadelphia; and

WHEREAS, Hunt graduated from Lincoln University, and began his career as a sports journalist in 1978, covering high school sports in Delaware County; and

WHEREAS, Shortly after, Hunt began working at the Philadelphia Tribune, the oldest black newspaper in the country, and began profiling major players in sports; and

WHEREAS, In his time at the Tribune, Hunt has written about sports at every level. He has covered professional, college, and high school teams, as well as Philadelphia's major league sports teams, including the Phillies, 76ers and Eagles. Reporting on public school baseball, the Negro Leagues, and Historically Black Colleges and Universities are all part of the Donald Hunt story; and

WHEREAS, In addition to his journalistic career, Hunt is an accomplish author. He has published The Philadelphia Big Five, Great Names in Black College Sports, and Chaney: Playing for a Legend; and

WHEREAS, Hunt was an integral part of bringing the stamp of Philadelphia sports legend Wilt Chamberlain to life. He wrote the article that inspired the idea, and petitioned the Citizens Stamp Advisory Committee to create the stamp. Thanks to all his hard work, the U.S. Postal Service has released two of its largest stamps ever made in 2014; and

WHEREAS, In recognition of his outstanding journalism, Hunt has earned the "Dr. Frank 'Tick' Coleman Award," Journalist of the Year Award from The National Association of Black Journalists, and has been inducted into the Philadelphia Sports Hall of Fame; and
