Recognizing and Congratulation Shen Yun on the occasion of their 15th year performing in Pennsylvania as the world’s premier classical Chinese dance and music company.

WHEREAS, Shen Yun Performing Arts, the world’s premier classical Chinese dance and music company, will be returning to the Merriam Theater in Philadelphia, with 10 shows from February 19 - 27 2022; and
WHEREAS, “Shen Yun,” translates as “the beauty of divine beings dancing”; and
WHEREAS, The company was established in New York State in 2006, with the mission of reviving 5,000 years of traditional Chinese culture, which had been lost in many ways under Chinese Communist Party rule. Shen Yun is banned in China; and
WHEREAS, Shen Yun tours about 150 cities around the world each year. From Tokyo to Paris, Sydney to New York, Shen Yun’s live performances garner thunderous applause and accolades from full houses. Some audience members drive hundreds of miles to see the show, and others watch the same performance five or six times; and
WHEREAS, Shen Yun’s popularity reflects a growing need for goodness, harmony, and renewal. Shen Yun represents the artistic freedom of our nation’s great democracy, adapting ancient traditions for the modern stage; and
WHEREAS, Classical, ethnic and folk dances are beautifully matched with original scores from Shen Yun’s live orchestra. The digital backdrops help immerse audiences into every scene so that each performance looks beautiful and feels transformative; and
WHEREAS, The volunteers of the Greater Philadelphia Falun Dafa Association are proud to bring Shen Yun to the people of Philadelphia and Pennsylvania. This year marks the 15th year that residents of our state can experience the exquisite artistry and cultural legacy that Shen Yun imparts to the world. We expect that Shen Yun will sell out all shows in Philadelphia, as it has in the past; and
WHEREAS, In recognition of the company’s local tour and unusually long run of 10 shows, the significance of the company's contribution to the advancement of the arts in Pennsylvania. We hope to see you at the Merriam Theater in 2022; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we hereby recognize and congratulate Shen Yun on the occasion of their 15th year performing in Pennsylvania as the world’s premier classical Chinese dance and music company.
FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to the Greater Philadelphia Falun Dafa Association presenters of Shen Yun in Philadelphia, further evidencing the sincere respect and admiration of this legislative body.
