Designating the week of January 30, 2022, to February 5, 2022, as “Catholic Schools Week” in the City of Philadelphia, and further honoring and recognizing Catholic education throughout the City, and all Catholic Schools in the 4th Councilmanic District of the City of Philadelphia.

WHEREAS, Catholic Schools week was founded in 1974 to celebrate Catholic schools and catholic education in the United States. Catholic Schools Week is celebrated the last week of January through the first week of February, and is marked by masses, celebrations, and recognitions of students, staff, and faculty for their hard work and dedication. The theme for Catholic Schools Week 2022 is Faith. Excellence. Service; and
WHEREAS, Immaculate Heart of Mary School is led by Father Edward Casey and Principal Patrick Foley. The schools is committed to educating the whole child, academically, spiritually, emotionally, and recognizing the gifts and abilities of each student. They have implemented a rigorous curriculum, teach values, and practice effective instruction. Immaculate Heart of Mary is dedicated to ensuring that its students will live as responsible members of society in the 21st Century; and
WHEREAS, Mercy Career and Technical High School is led by President Sr. Rosemary Herron RSM and Principal Christian Aument. The school provides an education that combines an academic curriculum with career and technical experience to prepare their students for the workforce and post-secondary education. The core values of the school preach the idea that every person has inherent dignity and is worthy of respect as well as ensuring a diverse environment that builds a culture of appreciation, acceptance, understanding, and collaboration. They work to prepare their students for meaningful lives and successful careers as an investment into the future; and
WHEREAS, Holy Family Early Childhood Education Program is led by Director April Moore. The school offers a safe, welcoming, and educational journey for children of all faiths. Their main responsibility is to offer quality childhood care to children to ensure that they will continue to develop. All students receive a loving, warm classroom environment and staff, and will always be respected. Holy Family Early Childhood Education has developed a program that encourages parental involvement through programming that includes the whole family; and
WHEREAS, St. Frances Cabrini Catholic School is led by Principal Van Robinson. The school is a model for education in the community where students, families, and staff all play an integral part in the development and success of all students. They provide a learning environment grounded in academic excellence where intellectual, spiritual, moral, and social emotional needs of each student can be met. St. Frances Cabrini strives to ensure that it’s graduates will be compassionate, caring, and engaged citizens in our country; and
WHEREAS, St. Rose of Lima Catholic School lives out its mission by preparing and nurturing students of all faiths to be caring, responsible, well-rounded students and citizens of characters. Their students will have a lifelong passion for learning, service, and living well rounded lives of value. St. Rose of Lima is committed to the students, parents, and the community that they serve. They are conscious of the need to prepare children for success in the rapidly changing environment and technology driven world we live in; and
WHEREAS, The hard work and dedication of Catholic Schools in the City of Philadelphia and the 4th Councilmanic District should be honored and recognized during Catholic Schools Week; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That it hereby honors and congratulates Catholic Schools in the City of Philadelphia and declares the week of January 30, 2022, through February 5, 2022, as “Catholic Schools Week” in the City of Philadelphia.
FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to the Archbishop of Philadelphia, Nelson Perez for his leadership of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, Brian McElwee Chair of the Board of the Independence Mission Schools for their leadership in Catholic Education, as well as the leadership of Immaculate Heart of Mary School, Mercy Career and Technical High School, Holy Family Early Childhood Education Program, St. Frances Cabrini Catholic School, and St. Rose of Lima Catholic School as a sign of the respect and admiration of this legislative body.
