Honoring, congratulating, and thanking Darin L. Gatti on the occasion of his retirement from the Streets Department and his many years of service to the citizens of Philadelphia.

 

Body

WHEREAS, On February 18, 2022, Darin Gatti, PE is retiring as Chief Engineer of The Streets Department, Survey, Design and Construction Division; and

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Gatti received his first appointment with the City of Philadelphia on June 26, 1980, as an Engineering Intern at the Streets Department. He separated after 6 months, and returned on June 15, 1982, as a Graduate Civil Engineer with the Streets Department Bridge Division. The following year he was promoted to Civil Engineer. Darin earned his Professional Engineering License in 1986. Darin rose through the ranks, as an Engineering Supervisor I in 1987. In 1996, he was promoted to Engineering Supervisor II. In 2003, he was promoted to Streets Engineering Assistant Manager, and then promoted to Streets Engineering Manager in 2007. In 2012, Darin assumed the role of the City’s Chief Bridge Engineer. Later that year in 2012, he served, as Acting Chief Engineer and Surveyor, in a temporary capacity. In 2013, Darin was promoted to his current position of Chief Engineer and Board of Surveyor President; and

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Gatti exhibits dedication, enthusiasm, perseverance, and loyalty. Mr. Gatti led the efforts in many key, successful projects within the City of Philadelphia; and

 

WHEREAS, In addition to his civil services duties as an Engineer, Darin was dedicated to the civil engineering profession.  He has been an active member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), since his graduation from Drexel University in 1982. Darin served the Philadelphia Section of ASCE, as a Board Member from 1985-1997, as Treasurer, Vice-President and President-Elect. From 1997-98, Darin proudly served as President of the Philadelphia Section of ASCE. Following his term as President, he was on the Board of Directors until 2000-01. Over his career, Darin was dedicated to teaching and mentoring the ASCE Student Chapter. Starting in 1998, he played key roles in the annual ASCE Mid-Atlantic Region Student Conferences. Darin took pride and joy in being part of the annual ASCE “Concrete Canoe Races”, especially in setting-up the race buoys. Accompanying Darin to this event every year was his dog and devoted campion “Annie” who everyone knew and loved seeing her; and

 

WHEREAS, The Philadelphia Section ASCE Awards Program awarded Darin L. Gatti with The 2020 Philadelphia Civil Engineer of the Year Award. His retirement marks the completion of forty years of dedicated service to the citizens of Philadelphia. Mr. Gatti leaves behind a legacy of distinguished service and true devotion to his City; and

 

WHEREAS, The City of Philadelphia Streets Department, Surveys, Design & Construction Division, expresses sincere thanks, respect, and appreciation for a job well done. The members herby extend their best wishes to Mr. Gatti and his wife, Carolyn, for many years of pleasant relaxation, good health, and happiness; now, therefore, be it

 

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we hereby honor,

congratulate and thank Darin Gatti on the occasion of his retirement from the Streets Department and his many years of service to the citizens of Philadelphia.

 

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to Darin Gatti as evidence of the sincere sentiments of this legislative body.
