Title

Recognizing and honoring the Children’s Crisis Treatment Center (CCTC) on the occasion of its 50th Anniversary of service and leadership in the City of Philadelphia.

 

Body

WHEREAS, Children’s Crisis Treatment Center, also known as “CCTC”, is a private non-profit agency that specializes in providing mental and behavioral health services to children and their families. CCTC’s mission is to serve the emotional needs of children and their families beginning in early childhood, meeting children where they are and helping them reach their full potential regardless of their challenges; and

 

WHEREAS, CCTC was founded in 1971 as a research demonstration project housed in the basement of the Franklin Institute and supported by Hahnemann University Hospital; and

 

WHEREAS, From 1978-1997, CCTC grew by establishing programs such as the Therapeutic Nursery, providing psychological testing services, providing Behavioral Health Rehabilitation Services, and Philadelphia’s first ever Trauma Program serving children and families; and

 

WHEREAS, Between 1997 and 2009, CCTC began providing direct services to parents and caregivers and also established new programs including the Summer Therapeutic Enrichment Program, school-based programs, and the Tamaa program, which provides services to the West African community; and

 

WHEREAS, Since 2009, CCTC has embarked upon a number of larger infrastructure initiatives, including the adoption of an electronic medical records system, expansion into Montgomery County, and the formation of Caring Families, a parent/caregiver advisory board; and

 

WHEREAS, Beginning in 2011, CCTC began expanding existing programs into new settings including emergency housing and shelter settings and charter schools. In 2012, in response to the growing needs of the Mexican community in South Philadelphia, CCTC opened Abriendo Caminos. In 2014 CCTC opened two new programs: The Cornerstone Center, an acute partial hospitalization program, and the opening of their Montgomery County Division; and

 

WHEREAS, In the late Summer of 2020, CCTC implemented Community-Based Intensive Behavioral Health Services (IBHS) and School-Based IBHS with the primary responsibility of providing services in the 19149 and 19140 zip codes; and

 

WHEREAS, In 2022, CCTC will be expanding into New Jersey, providing mental and behavioral health services within Camden charter schools; and

 

WHEREAS, CCTC’s approach to care revolves around an understanding of the impact of adverse childhood experiences. They know that despite tremendous challenges, children can heal from psychological and emotional injuries. Through lasting partnerships with families, schools, and communities, CCTC creates environments that foster resiliency and recovery; and

 

WHEREAS, CCTC is a trauma-informed organization, certified in the Sanctuary Model, and embraces its seven commitments of nonviolence, emotional intelligence, open communication, social justice, democracy, social learning, and growth and change; and

 

WHEREAS, CCTC’s staff of more than 400 serves over 3,500 children and families annually, earning a reputation for excellence and recognition for their expertise in the areas of trauma, school-based services, community integration, and early childhood treatment; and

 

WHEREAS, For the past 50 years, CCTC has developed and implemented innovative ways of helping children and their families cope with obstacles that interfere with their emotional, social, and cognitive growth, providing center-based services and programs as well as meeting families and providing services in the home, community, and school, and occupying a leadership role in the children’s behavioral health community; now, therefore, be it

 

Resolved, That the Council of the City of Philadelphia, Hereby recognizes and honors Children’s Crisis Treatment Center on the occasion of its 50th Anniversary of service and leadership in the City of Philadelphia.

 

Further Resolved, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be sent to the Children’s Crisis Treatment Center “CCTC”, as evidence of the sincere respect and admiration of this legislative body.
