Recognizing May 14, 2022, as "Letter Carriers Food Collection Day" in the City of Philadelphia in Honor of their Annual "Stamp Out Hunger" Food Drive.

WHEREAS, The National Association of Letter Carriers' "Stamp Out Hunger" food drive is a one-day event to help stock local food pantries across the United States; and

WHEREAS, On Saturday, May 14, 2022, the National Association of Letter Carriers, in conjunction with the U.S. Postal Service and the Philadelphia County AFL-CIO, will be collecting non-perishable food items for distribution to food banks throughout the County of Philadelphia; and

WHEREAS, This year marks the 30th annual "Stamp Out Hunger" food drive in Philadelphia County, an event held in conjunction with the largest one-day food drive in the nation; and

WHEREAS, In years past (prior to the pandemic), more than 300,000 letter carriers across the country teamed up to collect over 70 million pounds of food. Philadelphia County residents generously supported that total, donating thousands of pounds of food; and

WHEREAS, Residents are urged to leave unexpired food items near their mailbox, where they will be collected by their postal employees. At the post office, food is sorted and delivered by volunteers to area food banks and pantries, greatly assisting needy individuals, families, and children; and

WHEREAS, Food banks especially need help right now because they are facing both increased demand from individuals and families impacted by the pandemic, as well as rising food prices and supply chain issues; and

WHEREAS, The Council of the City of Philadelphia urges all residents of Philadelphia County to participate in the National Association of Letter Carriers' "Stamp Out Hunger" food drive on Saturday, May 14, 2022. This collective effort will support dedicated local organizations striving to meet the needs of our neighbors; now, therefore, be it
