Adding Bryant Lamar Heard II to the street signs on the 5200 block of North Camac Street in celebration of his life.

 

Body

WHEREAS, Bryant Lamar Heard II was born to Cindy and Bryant Heard on July 15, 2001, in Philadelphia, PA; and

 

WHEREAS, Bryant was a loving, happy, and sincere child who excelled academically from pre-kindergarten through middle school at Gesu School, then at Tech Freire Charter High School, where he also studied ballroom dancing, played basketball, and earned multiple academic awards; and

 

WHEREAS, Following high school, Bryant was committed to pursuing a career as a tradesman, and he worked tirelessly to pass the apprenticeship exams for both the Plumbers and Carpenters Unions. On September 23, 2020, Bryant received word that he successfully passed the exam for the Plumbers Union Local 690, and on Monday, April 19, 2021, he completed the apprenticeship exam and had an interview scheduled to join the Carpenters Union Local 158. His family later learned that he also passed the Carpenters exam and was offered an opportunity to join as an Apprentice; and

 

WHEREAS, In additional to basketball, Bryant loved to play soccer and baseball. He spent much of his free time caring for his nieces and nephews, playing video games with his friends, and serving as a Junior Usher at Southside Church where he committed himself to God on Friday, June 3, 2016; and

 

WHEREAS, Before Bryant could accept the offer to become an Apprentice with the Carpenters Union, his life was tragically cut short one block from his home in front of neighbors who watched him grow from a joyous little boy into a respectful and caring young man who shined bright with great potential; and

 

WHEREAS, Bryant will continue to be celebrated as a funny, responsible, patient, and amazing young man by his family, close friends, and neighbors. He will be remembered for his wit, the lessons he taught his nieces, nephews, and younger cousins, and the smile and assistance he extended to neighbors; now, therefore, be it

 

RESOLVED, THAT THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, Hereby adds Bryant Lamar Heard II to the street signs on the 5200 block of North Camac Street in celebration of his life.

 

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to Mr. Heard’s family as a sincere expression of the Philadelphia City Council’s respect, gratitude, and recognition.
