WHEREAS, Quinta Brunson was born and raised in West Philadelphia and has gained prominence as a writer, producer, comedian, and actress; and

WHEREAS, Brunson gained notoriety early in her career by posting viral comedic videos to her Instagram page. Brunson then went on to produce videos before BuzzFeed before leaving the company in 2018. Brunson wrote and starred in the sketch comedy series A Black Lady Sketch Show, and appeared in shows such as the supernatural comedy-drama iZombie and the animated series Lazor Wulf and Magical Girl Friendship Squad; and

WHEREAS, In 2021, Brunson created the hit ABC television series Abbott Elementary, which details a documentary crew recording teachers at the fictional Willard R. Abbott Elementary School, an underfunded, predominately black Philadelphia public school; and

WHEREAS, In addition to being the show's creator, Brunson also stars as the main character, Janine Teagues, a 2nd grade teacher who is dedicated to educating, helping, and guiding her students; and

WHEREAS, Throughout its first season, Abbott Elementary became wildly popular and gained a wide variety of critical acclaims. The show was renewed for a second season in March 2022; and

WHEREAS, At the 74th Prime Time Emmy Awards, Quinta Brunson received the Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series; and

WHEREAS, Brunson made history as the first black women to be nominated three times in the comedy category for Outstanding Writing in a Comedy Series, Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series, and Outstanding Comedy Series; and

WHEREAS, This is Brunson's first Emmy award. Brunson is also only the second Black woman to win an Emmy for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series; and
