Designating Thursday, October 13, 2022 as ‘Children’s Environmental Health Day’ in the City of Philadelphia, and recognizing the launch of the Philadelphia Regional Center for Children’s Environmental Health.

 

Body

WHEREAS, the aim of Children’s Environmental Health (CEH) Day is to raise awareness about the importance of clean air and water, safe food and consumer products, healthy environments, and stable climates to children’s health and development; and

 

WHEREAS, CEH Day was created by the Children’s Environmental Health Network and is observed annually on the second Thursday in October as a means to celebrate progress of the children’s environmental health movement and create a strong network of child health advocates; and

 

WHEREAS, Lead exposure, poor air quality, mold, food insecurity, chemicals in consumer products, and diminishing water and soil quality are negatively affecting Philadelphia’s children; and

 

WHEREAS, This year, the Philadelphia Regional Center for Children’s Environmental Health (PRCCEH) was launched in an effort to further address the environmental health concerns facing our City’s children; and

 

WHEREAS, The PRCCEH is led by the collaborative efforts of Penn Medicine, the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, regional universities and colleges, and community partners and nonprofit organizations; and

 

WHEREAS, The PRCCEH’s mission is to disseminate children’s environmental health knowledge to Philadelphia regional health care providers, community members, and policy makers, develop, test and implement translational products, and engage researchers and community partners to make policy, practice, and behavioral changes to reduce negative environmental exposures in early life; and

 

WHEREAS, the PRCCEH serves to expand upon the community engagement programs including the Community Asthma Prevention Program, lead exposure and harm reduction, reducing exposure to air pollution and endocrine disrupting chemicals; and

 

WHEREAS, together, we can safeguard the health, safety and wellbeing of society’s most precious and vulnerable group, children; therefore, be it

 

RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That it hereby designates Thursday October 13, 2022 as Children’s Environmental Health Day, and recognizes the launch of the Philadelphia Regional Center for Children’s Environmental Health.
