Title

Naming and designating the Mill Creek Recreation Center, located at 4700 Brown Street as the ‘Tiffany Fletcher Recreation Center.’

 

Body

WHEREAS, Mill Creek is a neighborhood in West Philadelphia, running from 44th Street to 55th Street, North of Market Street and South of Girard Avenue; and

 

WHEREAS, The Mill Creek Recreation Center is one of the major features of Philadelphia’s Mill Creek section; and

 

WHEREAS, For years, the Mill Creek Recreation Center team has provided hundreds of children and families safe, fun activities and programming, including basketball tournaments and summer swimming lessons; and

 

WHEREAS, On September 9, 2022, tragedy struck the Mill Creek Rec Center when gunshots rang out, and beloved Mill Creek team member Tiffany Fletcher lost her life in the crossfire; and

 

WHEREAS, Tiffany Fletcher took on the role of Pool Maintenance Attendant with the Philadelphia Department of Parks and Recreation to ensure that Mill Creek’s residents had access to the pool, and eventually became a Seasonal Maintenance Attendant to provide residents with a clean, safe space to gather; and

 

WHEREAS, Tiffany Fletcher was a cherished member of the Mill Creek Community, remembered for always putting the needs of others above her own, and striving every day to make a difference in the lives of those around her; and

 

WHEREAS, Tiffany is survived by three sons, and leaves behind colleagues and a community that is devastated by her loss; and

 

WHEREAS, Her ambition, kind heart, and lighthearted nature will have a lasting impact on the entire Mill Creek Community, and all those who knew and loved her; now therefore

 

THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA HEREBY ORDAINS:

 

SECTION 1. The Mill Creek Recreation Center located at 4700 Brown Street is hereby named and designated as the ‘Tiffany Fletcher Recreation Center.”
