Honoring and congratulating Champion of the Week, the Imhotep Institute Charter High School STEM students and faculty, for their heroic work in providing 3D printed water filters to residents of Jackson, Mississippi, in a water quality crisis.

WHEREAS, The City of Jackson, MS, is under boil-water notice because cloudy water that could cause illness was identified in their water supply system; and
WHEREAS, The City of Jackson, MS, is the largest city in one of the poorest states in the country and nearly 25 percent of Jackson’s residents live in poverty, double the national average; and
WHEREAS, Communities of color are more likely to suffer from dangerous tap water quality; and
WHEREAS, The Imhotep Institute STEM students recognize the pursuit of water equality and environmental justice affects everybody; and
WHEREAS, The Imhotep Institute STEM students dedicated time outside of school to help the residents of Jackson, MS; and
WHEREAS, The Imhotep Institute STEM students presented their work to the NAACP Jackson State University Chapter; and
WHEREAS, Imhotep Institute Charter High School is donating a 3D printer to Blackburn Middle School in, Jackson, MS, to sustain the project’s benefits; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we hereby honor and congratulate the Imhotep Institute Charter High School STEM students and faculty, for their heroic work in providing 3D printed water filters to residents of Jackson, Mississippi.
FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy be presented to the Imhotep Institute Charter High School STEM students and faculty further evidencing the sincere admiration and respect of this legislative body.
