Honoring and congratulating Champion of the Week, Jacob Beccles, for being the first basketball player from Philadelphia Public League to receive admission to an Ivy League university in 40 years.

 

Body

WHEREAS, Jacob Beccles is an 18-year-old shooting guard who is committed to Cornell University in the fall of 2023; and

 

WHEREAS, Beccles is the first Philadelphia high school student to receive admission to an Ivy League university in 40 years which did not come easy and without a lot of hard work and dedication; and

 

WHEREAS, Starting off in Beccles High School career he played for the Constitution High School Generals basketball team; and

 

WHEREAS, After playing for the Constitution Generals, Beccles is completing a post grade year at the Lawrenceville prep school; and

 

WHEREAS, At Lawrenceville prep school, Beccles focused on strengthening his academic goals with more Advanced Placement (AP) courses to help him further his chances of attending an Ivy League institution; and

 

WHEREAS, At Cornell, Beccles wants to study Business and continue to grow his Basketball career; and

 

WHEREAS, Beccles determination and perseverance on and off the court has paved the way for future generations in Philadelphia to play basketball at an Ivy League; and

 

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we hereby honor and congratulate Jacob Beccles, for being the first basketball player from Philadelphia Public League to receive admission to an Ivy League university in 40 years.

 

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy be presented to Jacob Beccles further evidencing the sincere admiration and respect of this legislative body.
