Recognizing March 5 -11, 2023, during Women's History Month, as Women in Construction (WIC) Week in the City of Philadelphia

Body
WHEREAS, Women in Construction (WIC) Week was created by the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC), to highlight women as a viable component of the construction industry and emphasize the growing role of women in the industry. The NAWIC Philadelphia Chapter #145 continually promotes the employment and advancement of women in the industry, as well as serving the Philadelphia community through development and education on this subject; and

WHEREAS, Women in Nontraditional Careers (WINC) is a multi-stakeholder regional collaboration that includes community colleges, apprenticeship and training programs, employers, industry and union representatives, non-profit and governmental agencies, and most importantly, women working in manufacturing, construction, utilities and transit; and

WHEREAS, The National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) and Women in Nontraditional Careers (WINC) together will be a voice for recruiting and retaining women in these industries; and

WHEREAS, WIC Week in Philadelphia honors NAWIC and WINC for their commitment to support, increase, and advance the participation of women in construction careers in the Philadelphia region; and

WHEREAS, Women are underrepresented in these careers and WINC and NAWIC's goal is to assist in providing information, education, and resources for women so they can connect to construction career pathways that have the potential to provide excellent wages, job security, and opportunities for advancement; and

WHEREAS, NAWIC and WINC together have the unique ability to assist in changing how the industry views and accepts women into these career paths.
