Honoring and Congratulating the Students of Walter B. Saul High School for Earning a Gold Medal at the 2023 Philadelphia Flower Show.

WHEREAS, Walter B. Saul (W.B. Saul) is a magnet high school located in the Roxborough neighborhood of Philadelphia. W.B. Saul seeks to provide students with an education centered on agriculture and farm mechanics. Saul is located on a 130-acre campus and is the largest agricultural farm school in the United States; and
WHEREAS, The Philadelphia Flower Show is the nation's largest and longest-running horticultural event and features the world's premier floral and landscape designers; and
WHEREAS, The 2023 Philadelphia Flower Show ran from March 4th-12th at the Pennsylvania Convention Center. The 2023 theme for the show is "Garden Electric." This year's event also featured some of the largest gardens in its history, with several creators designing immersive, 360-degree floral scapes that range in size from 2,200 to 2,900 square feet; and
WHEREAS, Students from W.B. Saul have been competing in the Philadelphia Flower Show for the past 30 years. Each year, students choose a different color in which they base their theme; and
WHEREAS, Taking inspiration from the Show's theme, the students chose the color electric blue as the highlight of their exhibit. The students created an incredible artistic display that featured a mannequin in a blue gown accented with flowers. The figure stood below a pergola covered in vines and on a terrace covered in a variety of flower beds; and
WHEREAS, The students' inspiration for this design came from what they lost due to COVID-19. The exhibit was inspired by students lost opportunity to attend their high school prom, and the exhibit was made to transport visitors to the scene of a garden gala; and
WHEREAS, The Philadelphia Flower Show awards medals for three categories of exhibitors based on different criteria to celebrate creativity and exceptional execution. Exhibits are scored...
