WHEREAS, Philadelphia has three winners in this year's prestigious James Beard Awards, held in Chicago. The three awards won, Outstanding Restaurant, Best Chef Mid-Atlantic, and Outstanding Restaurateur make Philadelphia the city with the most honorees at this year's awards; and

WHEREAS, Philadelphia has long been known as a food and hospitality city, with a wide array of restaurants from all cuisines; and

WHEREAS, Friday Saturday Sunday, in Rittenhouse Square, is an eight-course tasting menu in New American cuisine. The restaurant took home the top prize for Outstanding Restaurant. Philadelphian natives Chad and Hanna Williams have owned the restaurant for seven years now; and

WHEREAS, Chutatip "Nok" Suntaranon, of Kalaya, won Best Chef for the Mid-Atlantic region. Her new concept is a Southern Thai destination. Steeped in tradition and authenticity, Kalaya was founded by Suntaranon to showcase the eating culture of Southern Thailand, which shares influence from Indian, Indonesian, Malaysian, Laotian, and Chinese cuisine, and

WHEREAS, Ellen Yin is the operator of High Street Hospitality Group and was awarded Outstanding Restaurateur. Yin owns and operates The Wonton Project, High Street Philly, High Street Hoagies, a.kitchen+bar, and the esteemed Fork restaurant; and

WHEREAS, These restaurants and chefs represent the best of Philadelphia, a long time- but still growing- food city. These restaurants have come to represent the people of Philadelphia, our cultures both local and abroad, and have forwarded Philadelphia into the national culinary conversation; now, therefore, be it
