WHEREAS, On June 20, 2023, Prime Minister Narendra Modi landed in the United States for the first day of his historic Official State Visit. During his visit, Prime Minister Modi visited the United Nations Headquarters where he celebrated The International Day of Yoga on June 21st, and

WHEREAS, On June 22nd, Prime Minister Modi will be welcomed to the White House by the President Joe Biden where the two will engage in high level discussions about how the world's two largest democracies can work towards ensuring economic prosperity and most importantly global security. Also, on the 22nd, at the invitation of Congressional Leadership, Prime Minister Modi will address a joint session of the United States Congress. Finally, that evening, The Biden's will host a State Dinner in the Prime Minister's honor; and

WHEREAS, On June 23rd, Prime Minister Modi will be hosted by Vice President, Kamala Harris, and Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, at an Official Luncheon at the State Department, to celebrate the historic ties between the United States and the Republic of India; and

WHEREAS, The relationship between the United States and India was established in 1946 when the governments of the United States and India exchanged Ambassadors and upgraded their respective missions to Embassies. In 1947, President Harry S. Truman recognized the Union of India as an independent state; and

WHEREAS, Nearly 128,000 Indians live in the Philadelphia region. Indian-Americans have made immense contributions to our city and state. Their impact on the economy, health care, technology, education, and culture must be recognized; and

WHEREAS, Throughout their shared histories, The United States and India have developed deep ties. They are both members of the United Nations, the United Nations Security Council when India held a seat,...
