| 0 | | | COMMUNICATION | June 2, 2015
TO THE PRESIDENT AND MEMBERS OF THE
COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA:
I am pleased to inform you that on June 2, 2015 I signed Bill No. 140644, which passed Council on May 14, 2015. This bill would authorize the City to inspect propane and natural gas systems operated by mobile food vendors, and set City-wide standards for the industry in regards to propane and natural gas use.
Importantly, I must point out that the bill is not effective until authorized by state law. I am advised by the Law Department that, unfortunately, all provisions of the bill are dormant until the General Assembly has acted.
Nevertheless, safety comes first. The City continues to make appropriate arrangements with state and federal regulators to conduct inspections of propane and natural gas systems. The Fire Department will continue to collaborate with the Pennsylvania Department of the Labor and Industry, as well as the United States Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration to conduct these inspections during large events. | READ | | |
